She sent an email under someone else’s name to the prestigious elementary school her daughter had been waitlisted and asked them to drop another applicant from the waiting list so that her daughter would get a higher chance to be enrolled.

The school had neither predicted nor prepared for such Internet fraud against its system.

If the school had anticipated such fraud on the Internet, it would have designed the system more protective against false identities.

Energy is becoming more sustainable and widely available. Access to electricity in poorer countries has begun to accelerate, energy efficiency continues to improve, and renewable energy is making impressive gains in the electricity sector. But more efforts are needed to improve access to clean and safe cooking fuels and technologies, expand the use of renewable energy, and increase electrification in sub-Saharan Africa.
- 3 billion people rely on wood, coal, charcoal, or animal waste for cooking and heating
- Energy accounts for around 60 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions.
Goal 7.1: Ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services
Goal 7.2: Increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix
Goal 7.3: Double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency

Sustainable development goal 7 aims to provide affordable and clean energy, especially in poor countries. 

There still are around three billion people who use wood, coal, and animal waste to cook and heat their homes, causing more greenhouse gas emissions than clean energy. 

The goal aims to facilitate access to cleaner, more reliable, and efficient energy for everyone, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.

GMC-Aug 1

Genetically modified crops, GMCs or GM crops, are plants used in agriculture whose DNA has been modified using genetic engineering techniques to introduce a new trait to the plant such as resistance to certain pests, diseases, or environmental conditions, reduction of spoilage, or resistance to chemical treatments, or improving the nutrient profile of the crop. The use of genetically modified crops has been a highly controversial issue. Some people believe such modification to the gene shouldn’t be justified and are concerned about unexpected consequences of artificial engineering to crops while others anticipate more crops will be genetically modified in the future to deal with the population growth and global warming.
Will you just eat naturally created and grown food or accept artificially engineered and modified food? => Write your response in three to four sentences.

I will eat genetically modified food without hesitation if it is economically and environmentally advantageous. 

When the world population increases by 30% in the next three decades and climate changes occur because of global warming, this world is going to have a serious food shortage.   

We will definitely need foods that are more resistant and durable to such an environment like GMC to ensure that sufficient food and adequate nutrition are provided for all the people on Earth. 

Some worry about the safety of GMC but such concern is groundless because there is no scientific evidence of the threat to health.   

In fact, using pesticides for ordinary crops is certainly more harmful to human health and to the environment.

[Goal 6: Clean water and *Sanitation] 
     *sanitation <- sanitary (adj) clean and not dangerous for your health; clean, hygienic, sterile
While handwashing is one of the most effective actions you can take to reduce the spread of bacterium and viruses and also prevent infections, billions of people still lack safe water sanitation and funding is not enough.
- One in three people do not have access to safe drinking water, and two out of five people do not have a basic hand-washing facility with soap and water.
- More than 670 million people still practice open defecation. (<= 5x of Japan’s population, 2x of US population)
- Water scarcity affects more than 40 percent of the global population and is projected to rise.
- 2.4 billion people lack access to basic sanitation services, such as toilets or *latrines.
      *latrines [ləˈtriːn] a toilet, hole, or simpler facility used in a camp/barracks or for an emergency.
- Over 80 percent of wastewater from human activities is discharged into rivers or seas without any pollution removal.
Goal 6.1: Achieve access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.
Goal 6.2: Achieve access to decent sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation.
Goal 6.3: Improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping, and minimizing the release of hazardous chemicals and materials.

The SDG goal 6 aims to provide safe water to everyone to prevent infections. 

Clean water is essential for people’s lives and health but billions of people don’t have access to safe drinking water or water sanitation. 

Also, the goal includes providing basic sanitation services like toilets and hand-washing facilities, and soap.
