今年3月、幕張メッセで開催された合同企業説明会。事前に「私服・はき慣れた靴でご来場ください」という事前案内にもかかわらず、参加した学生のほとんどがスーツ姿だった。学生に理由を聞くと、口をそろえたのが「スーツが無難だと思ったから」。黒のリクルートスーツに身を包んだ男子学生(21)は、「カジュアルな格好が良さそうなところの個別説明会では、そういう格好で行くつもり。会社が求めるニーズに合わせた服装をしたい」。数少ない私服姿だった男子学生(22)も、「まだ(スーツを)持っておらず、今日は私服で来たが今後の面接は『私服可』でもスーツで行くと思う」と話した。
