Why US won't go Metric-Nov 24

Why America won't go metric
Meter and centimeter, and kilogram and gram are base units of the Metric system, which is used in almost all the countries in the world now. One meter was originally defined to be one ten-millionth of the distance between the North Pole and the Equator through Paris in the 1790s.
The imperial system was developed from earlier English units. The inch, foot, yard, and mile for length, the ounce, pint, gallon for volume, and the pound for weight are typical examples.
The UK and Canada officially use the metric system but also use the imperial system. There is another country, whose economy is the largest in the world, that still uses the imperial system as its customary system. The US. If you visit America, you’ll find it inconvenient to convert the unit for distance, length, speed, weight, size, space, and even temperature to your accustomed measurement.
Read the introduction and the article.
Write why the US chose to use the imperial system and why it still uses it in five to six sentences.

Reference:  US independence: 1776  French Revolution: 1789-99  Britain-France War: 1793-1815

When Britain and France were at war in the 1790s, the US chose to side with Britain because it didn’t want to get influenced by the French Revolution and keep the Imperial system
Even though the Metric system was declared the preferred system by law in 1975, it was just voluntary and people, societies, and businesses weren’t encouraged to use the unfamiliar measurements
A poll in 2016 showed that less than a third of Americans wanted to convert to the Metric system.
Also, the USA consists of 50 independently governed states and is big enough to sustain its preferred system.
There is not enough motivation or pressure to change the measurement system from the one they’ve used since the foundation. (5 sentences in 120 words)

Write a Summary-Nov 21

Identify the topic for each section.
A medical experiment was conducted on 40 healthy young volunteers in Minnesota in 1944 to learn the physical and mental effects of starvation.
The experiment took nearly a year with three distinct periods, well-fed, hungry, and recovery.
In the first period, the volunteers were well-fed and they were full of energy and motivation to do various activities.
During the starvation period, they were provided only half the required calories and became irritated, frustrated, and demotivated to do any activity.
The recovery period was the hardest for the participants because of the slow process and mental suffering.
The experiment revealed that hunger affects both physically and mentally for a long period.

Boy's Long Hair-Nov 17

Students sue Texas school district for banning long hair on boys
A dress code is a set of rules of clothing groups of people should wear. Different societies and cultures have different dress codes, and they tend to change from time to time. Many schools implement dress codes to prevent students from wearing inappropriate clothing items to school. Some schools have school uniforms and others set guidelines as to what is recommended or prohibited to wear at school. But how far does a school or school district enforce the dress code?
One of the school districts in Texas, a conservative southern US state, maintains and enforces its dress code policy that prohibits boys from having long hair. In one school, a 9-year-old student was barred from recess and lunch breaks as punishment. Boys and *non-binary students claim that the dress code is an act of segregation. One student says that long hair is a part of his family’s heritage and another student argues that it is part of their gender expression.
*non-binary is a term for people whose gender identity doesn't sit comfortably with 'man' or 'woman'.

Pet Cloning-Nov 10

Blog Pet cloning is getting more popular despite the cost
Your pet is a family member. You adore your pet as much as you do. Unfortunately, the life expectancy of dogs and cats is usually not as long as yours unless you get a new pet at a later stage in your life. Some pet owners become so desperate to be with the same pet longer or forever. And where there is a strong need, there is an opportunity for a business solution. Pet cloning. If you take some DNA samples from your beloved pet dog, inject them into a donor egg, and put it into a surrogate mother, she will give birth to cloned puppies. Genetically, these puppies are identical to the original pet dog. You can enjoy very similar pet dogs to the original pet you adored. However, they may develop different behaviors or characters as they grow because they experience different situations and conditions. Some criticize such practices as unethical because there are many more dogs waiting to be adopted in shelters. Also, the cost to produce a cloned pet is as expensive as a luxury car.
What do you think about pet cloning? Would you like to have a cloned one of your pets if you could afford it? Write your response in five to eight sentences with a CS.

Write a Summary-Nov 7

Write a summary of the excerpt in five sentences
Use the provided subjects for each sentence.
Balancing the intake of the two types of fats, saturated and unsaturated, is essential for health.
Saturated fats, contained in meat and dairy products, could increase the risk of causing heart diseases, cancers, and even mental disorders.
Unsaturated fats, included in vegetable oils, nuts, and avocados, should consist of most of the daily fat intake.
Fatty acids are chemical compounds made from food fat, which play a vital role to keep physical and mental conditions in good shape.
Among fatty acids, omega-3 fatty acids, which are contained in canola, soy, walnut oils, and some fish, are the most essential to develop the human brain and also to help mental stability.

SDG 17-Nov 3

SDG 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
The SDGs can only be realized with inclusive partnerships and cooperation, at the global, regional, national, and local levels. They are built upon a shared vision and goals that put people and the planet at the center. However, while many developing countries require Official Development Assistance (ODA) to stimulate growth and trade, aid levels are falling and donor countries have not provided their pledged financing support to developing countries. For example, almost half of the world’s population is not connected to the internet, particularly in poor countries. Also, Covid vaccination rates in developing countries are lagging far behind those in developed countries despite the *COVAX efforts.
*COVAX aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and to guarantee fair access for every country in the world.
