Goal 2: Zero Hunger
Nearly 700 million people are hungry, or 9 percent of the world
population, and increasing. 135 million suffer from severe hunger largely due to
man-made conflicts, climate change, and economic downturns. The COVID-19
pandemic could now add 130 million people at risk of suffering starvation.
The majority of the world’s undernourished are still found in Asia and
Africa. Also, an estimated 2 billion people in the world did not have regular
access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.
Swift action needs to be taken to provide food and humanitarian relief
to the most at-risk regions. Increasing agricultural productivity and
sustainable food production are crucial to help relieve the perils of hunger.
Goal 2.1: By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in
particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to
safe, nutritious, and sufficient food all year round.
Goal 2.3: By 2030, double the agricultural productivity and incomes of
small-scale food producers, in particular women, indigenous peoples, family
farmers, and fishers.

糖尿病になるとインスリンの作用不足により血糖が異常に高くなってしまいます。
1型糖尿病ではすい臓がインスリンを作ることができないので、インスリンを注射が必要で、
（患者個人の血糖値とインスリン分泌の状態にあわせて適時適量の）
不足するインスリンを
1日１～4回注射して血糖値をよい状態を保ちます。
テルモが開発するのは「人工すい臓」。親指などから採血して血糖値を測り、1日に何度もインスリン注射が必要な1型糖尿病患者が対象だ。
患者の腕などに小型の血糖測定器を貼り、極細の針で体液から血糖値を5分間隔で自動測定。このデータにスマホ型端末で管理する食事や運動の情報を合わせて、AIが最適なインスリンの量を算出する。その結果を腹部に貼り付けた「インスリンポンプ」が受信し、本物のすい臓がインスリンを分泌するように持続的に自動投与する。
インスリンの注射は医師の指導を受ければ、患者自身が打つことができる。インスリンポンプ単体では薬事承認を得て2018年から国内で販売している。必要なインスリンの量などを入力しておけば設定したタイミングで投与される。今後はAIが自動制御するシステムでの承認と保険適用を目指し、数年内に実用化したい考えだ。
国際糖尿病連合の予測では、世界の糖尿病患者は19年の4億6300万人から30年には5億7800万人に増える。1型糖尿病は一般的に5～10%を占めるとされる。
1型糖尿病の患者は頻繁な採血とインスリン注射で、治療は痛みとの戦いだ。月1回程度の通院も負担になっている。人工すい臓は自分で注射を打つ苦痛から解放するうえ、血糖管理の精度を向上させ合併症リスクを減らすことが期待できる。血糖値や投与の詳細な履歴管理は治療の質を向上させる。医師とデータをネットで共有できるようになれば、オンライン診療と組み合わせて通院回数を減らし、医療の効率化や医療費削減につながる可能性もある。
