Writing about Referendum-Sr.2-Dec.23

What sorts of issues should or shouldn’t be asked voters in a referendum?
Write your response in four to six sentences and post it on the blog before New Year.

I think issues that relate to human and gender rights should be asked in a referendum
First, elected representatives are expected to represent the voices of the election district or political ideology.
They are not suitable to make a good judgment on human rights or gender-sensitive issues.
They vote by their individual beliefs and thoughts on such issues and it is very personal.
Also, the proportion of elected representatives don’t always reflect the generation, races, religious beliefs, cultural values, or genders fairly.
For example, if the majority of the congress or parliament are male representatives, they don’t always make fair arguments or decisions on gender-sensitive issues without prejudice.
Human and gender rights should bring attention of all citizens and should be decided by them directly

Write about Referendum-Sr.2-Dec.17

A Referendum is a direct vote in which an entire electorate is asked to either accept or reject a particular proposal. This may result in the adoption of a new constitution, a constitutional *amendment, or a law.          *amendment: change, modification

Is a referendum the ultimate expression of citizens’ views, the best means to resolve any major issues, such as a constitutional amendment, nuclear armament, or independence, the most appropriate form of democracy? => Write your answer in three to four sentences. (50 words)

I think a referendum is a good means to reflect people’s voices and improve democracy.
Unlike ordinary elections, people vote their response to important issues directly in a referendum.
They are directly involved in the political issue and become more responsible for their roles in their own society.
Also, if more people are interested in politics, the quality of the elected politicians and political system may improve.
As long as a referendum is held for constitutional matters, not just for a political dispute like Osaka referendum or Brexit, it seems like a democratic way to make a decision on a key issue.
