Chocolate looks, smells, and tastes delicious.
Most people say chocolate from Switzerland is the best chocolate. And for more than 170 years, one Swiss candy maker has been making chocolate for the world—Lindt.
Today, the company sells its products in more than 120 countries and has more than 14,000 workers.
It all started as a small family business here in Zurich, Switzerland. A man named David Sprüngli-Schwarz opened a small chocolate shop in Zurich. His son Rudolf expanded the business. He managed the shops and built a large factory here in Kilchberg. The company’s main office is still here today.
Rudolf’s son Johann became a partner with another man named Rodolphe—Rodolphe Lindt. Then the company became one of the most famous chocolate makers in the world.
Rodolphe Lindt was an expert chocolate maker, and he made a special machine. This machine made his chocolate smoother and tastier than any other chocolate. It was a big success and changed the chocolate-making process.
Over the next 100 years, Lindt continued to develop new products. The company became bigger and stronger.
Today, they even have a team of master chocolate makers. They taste the chocolate every day to make sure it tastes good. They also try new flavors to create new products.
Because they try new things and are careful about quality, Lindt and Sprüngli is one of the biggest candy companies in the world. It has factories all over the world and sales of over four billion dollars. That’s pretty good for a small family chocolate shop!

Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causes many diseases, and impairs the health of smokers in general. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and diabetes. Smoking also increases the risk of tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and problems with the immune system. Quitting smoking lowers the risk of smoking-related diseases and can add years to a person’s life
E-cigarettes, often called vapes, are not safe for youth, young adults, and pregnant women, as well as adults who do not currently use tobacco products.
Some people say that we should prohibit all kinds of cigarettes including e-cigarettes.
What do you think about that?
=> Speak your response in 3 sentences.
