セブン―イレブン・ジャパンは2024年春から商品企画に生成AI（人工知能）を導入し、企画にかかる期間を最大で10分の1に短縮する。全店舗の販売データやSNS（交流サイト）の消費者の声の分析を基に商品の文章や画像をAIに作成させて、流行やニーズに合った商品を素早く売り出す。
世界の流通大手では店内のカメラで顧客の視線を把握して興味ある商品を割り出したり、血圧などを基に消費者の健康状態に合う商品をスマートフォンに表示したりするなど「リテールテック」の活用が進む。小売業の商品開発で生成AIを使うのは世界でも珍しく、テック技術活用の裾野が広がってきた。
セブンイレブンはこのほどクラウド上に独自のIT（情報技術）システム基盤を設けた。米オープンAIや米グーグル、英スタビリティーAIなどの生成AIを搭載し、POS（販売時点情報管理）データ、メーカーなどとの取引情報、SNSのデータを分析する。
構想から骨格を固めるまでの商品企画について従来は消費者アンケートなどを基に社員が商品のアイデアを練り、複数回の社内会議を経ていた。今後は新たなシステム基盤で販売動向、SNSの消費者のコメントから割り出した流行を分析。企画書の作成もAIに任せることを想定する。
先行して導入したシステム関連部署では社内会議は1つの企画あたり平均5回程度から1回まで減った。商品企画でも10カ月前後かかっていた期間が最短で10分の1の1カ月程度に縮まる見通し。時間やコストを減らすだけでなく、浮いた時間を他の業務や品質改善の取り組みに充てる。
セブンイレブンでは9000人弱の全社員のうち、まず管理職級の人員約1000人がシステム基盤の利用を始めた。24年春にかけて商品やマーケティングなど、実務を担当する各部署の担当者に利用を拡大する。
24年以降に新システムを使って企画したデザートなどを発売する見通しだ。グループ全体でプライベートブランド（PB）「セブンプレミアム」を約3400品扱っており、消費者のトレンドやニーズをいち早く把握することで、商品の幅を広げ数も増やす。
セブンイレブンでは単純業務はAIに置き換える方針だ。生成AIの活用で全国に2万店超を抱える店舗の運営効率化にも乗り出す。セブンイレブンには加盟店オーナーから運営や商品などへの意見や改善を求める声が届けられる。本部の担当社員が内容を項目別に分類して報告書としてまとめており、これにかける時間も最大で10分の1に短縮する。
各店舗にメールなどで送る新商品情報の作成もAIに切り替える。地域ごとで使用する原材料が若干異なるため現在は担当者が内容を確認している作業の手間を省き、精度を高めていく。
