Story of Chickens & Eggs #2-Jan 19

[2] How long do commercial chickens live?
Chickens live for between 5 and 10 years, but factors like quality of life, breed, and environment play a significant role in their lifespan. Chickens in commercial farms obviously do not live nearly that long as they’re raised solely for their eggs and meat.
When raised for meat, a chicken is usually slaughtered between the ages of 6 and 10 weeks. Broilers and fryers, about 7-week-old young chickens used for meat, are bred to mature quickly and reach a target weight at a young age. This cuts down on the cost of feeding and raising birds for slaughter, and it makes it easier to produce more birds throughout the year.
Chickens meant for laying eggs mature more slowly. They begin laying eggs around the age of 5 months. By the age of 4 or 5 years, most hens have slowed down or stopped laying eggs. In commercial farms, hens that have stopped laying are usually killed to prevent using up resources on an unproductive bird. These older hens often turn up in pet food, and soup stock as the meat is less tender and palatable.

Story of Chickens & Eggs #1-Jan 16

[1] How many eggs does a chicken lay in a lifetime?
In theory, a hen could lay eggs for ten years. In practice most egg layers - commercial egg layers make up the vast majority - live no more than two years and are replaced with new layers. Based on a University of Florida study, a hen could lay roughly the following percentage of first-year laying over a ten-year period:
Year 1: 100%          Year 2: 85%          Year 3: 68%          Year 4: 60%          Year 5: 50%
Year 6: 45%            Year 7: 35%          Year 8: 30%          Year 9: 25%          Year 10: 20%
Commercial chickens usually lay 5 eggs per week in year one, a chicken may lay roughly 260 eggs in her first year and about 500 eggs in a lifetime.
Question: Why do commercial hens only lay about 500 eggs in a lifetime?
Write to explain in 3-5 sentences.

Identify three topics and their paragraphs before writing.

=> Write a summary in three sentences. => when, where!
Satellite observation revealed that the huge crack that appeared in the Afar region in eastern Africa in 2005 was caused by volcanic activity underneath the surface.
The region lies on three tectonic plates, which are continuously moving, crushing in some places like the Indian subcontinent and splitting in others like the African and American continents.
As the three tectonic plates move apart from each other, the Afar region is expected to be separated from the African continent and a new sea will emerge between them like the Atlantic in a million years’ time.

The boy who spent a year in a tent for charity  (2:35)
An eleven-year-old English boy is about to spend 365 nights in a tent in his garden. He has endured rainy, windy, and freezing nights since the start of Britain’s first lockdown last March in small tent. On some rainy nights, all of his stuff soaked wet. He had to ask himself why he was doing it on some nights even though he had been quite determined. His intention was to raise money/funds for his local hospice, a hospital for people who are dying, where his neighbor friend, who had given him the tent to have an adventure with it, had been cared for. His initiative received wide support from many people including high-profile athletes and media personnel.
