[Goal 2: Zero Hunger]
Nearly 700 million people, or about 9 percent of the
world population, are hungry, and the number is increasing. Also, more than 135
million people suffer from severe
hunger largely due to man-made conflicts,
climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and economic downturns. The majority of the world’s undernourished are still found in Asia and Africa. Also, an
estimated 2 billion people in the world do not have regular access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.
Swift action
needs to be taken to provide food and humanitarian relief to the most at-risk regions. Increasing
agricultural productivity and sustainable food production is crucial to help relieve the perils of hunger.
Goal 2.1: By 2030, end hunger and ensure access for all people, in particular the poor
and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious, and
sufficient food all year round.
Goal 2.3: By 2030, double the agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale food producers, in particular women, indigenous peoples, family farmers, and fishers.
