SDG 14-Dec 20

[SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources]
The ocean covers three-quarters of the Earth’s surface and drives global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind because rainwater, drinking water, weather, much of our food, and the oxygen in the air are all ultimately provided and regulated by the sea.
- Oceans absorb 30% of carbon dioxide and 90% of the excess heat in the climate system.
- Human activities warm and acidify oceans, and emit more and more carbon into oceans.
- Over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods.
Goal 14.1: Prevent and reduce marine pollution, including marine debris and nutrient pollution from land.
Goal 14.2: Manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant harmful impacts.
Goal 14.4Regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unregulated fishing, and destructive fishing practices.
